2023 — A call for an urgent response
Following a series of shocking and horrific murders of women by their partners, the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing called for an urgent response to address the emergency and convened crisis talks between those with lived experience of family and domestic violence, Aboriginal leaders, family and domestic violence support services and the WA Government.

2024 — A taskforce is convened
As a result of those talks, in early 2024 the WA Government convened a Family and Domestic Violence Taskforce to consider and provide advice about reforms, identify actions and strengthen responses to family and domestic violence in Western Australia.

The System Reform Plan
Informed by extensive engagement with all parties, that taskforce created the Family and Domestic Violence System Reform Plan, aimed at providing consistent, quality, safe and effective responses to family and domestic violence that safeguard victim-survivors and hold perpetrators to account.

January 2026 — WorkforceFDV is funded
The WA Government announced over $6 million in funding for WorkforceFDV over three years, as part of its commitment to implementing the Strengthening Responses to Family and Domestic Violence System Reform Plan 2024 to 2029.
